The #1 Online Comunity for Airsoft Teams

Why is it that everyone that comes up to me and wants to join the Headhunters wants to be a sniper? What is the big deal about being a sniper? You stay in one area and wait for the enemy to come to you. Sure real snipers slowly move up to the target area and take their shot. In airsoft you have to be within 250 feet of your target. You may get one or two shots off and then you are no longer a sniper, you are a ground pounder because you have been discovered.

Not me, give me an objective and let me go reign terror on the thing. I want to be running around and raising HELL and stringing my enemy out so that they are easier to attack. Give me a two to three man team and watch the fire works start.

Why oh why does everyone want to be a sniper? I guess they have watched too many war movies. Sorry everyone but your not going to get that magic Hollywood shot from 900 meters away with an airsoft gun.

Snipers are cool if you have that scenerio built into your mission but not everyone can be a sniper so quit asking. We are a light infantry structured unit. We do not need any snipers. We need highly motivated people who are willing to run their asses off and send rounds down range.

That is my rant. Tell me what you think. If you disagree then you probably want to be a sniper. Sorry about that.

I recently learned of the sport, and i have to say I was intrigued at the thought of being a sniper. I did the research though and for the most part you are correct in my opinion. These guns dont allow for that kind of range, but i also have to disagree with you. To snipe effectively in airsoft one should us a long barrel AEG and have it at the max FPS the field allows. Throw a decent scope on it and use the single fire to snipe. Then if your position is compramised you can go to full auto. Bolt action rifles shouldn't be used too often they are way too slow.

to be a bit clearer its like a LMG is used in a squad on the front lines to provide suppressive fire. This type of sniper would be the surgical attack that would hit them when they popped thier head out to the side.

I do agree with your thinking, my primary is a Steyr AUG. I love the selective fire trigger, but, then you are a designated marksman or rifleman not a sniper with most scenarios . The sniper role is usually designated as using a realistic replica sniper rifle. (The same goes with a heavy gunner, you have to utilize a replica of a machine gun, SAW, RPK, BAR, etc.) The sniper has to either be bolt action or sometimes semiauto only, full auto disabled internally. Then your rifle can be considered a sniper rifle and allowed to fire at higher fps(500-550 usually), usually with prior clearance from the field operators. Your minimum kill distance is also farther (50-100 ft). They do this to keep people from putting a long barrel, scope, 5000 round box mag, and internal upgrades to fire at sniper fps all on the same gun.

I am new to the sport, and my first thought was that I wanted to be a sniper, but for a different reason. I've found that I'm great at disappearing. I can literally be within five feet of someone and them not see me when I want to (It's happened) and with a deceant airsoft gun, I am a crack shot and you probably won't see me afterwards. The problem is, not many people play in my area. The role of a sniper would only be helpful if you had a large team. A team of literally twelve or more is the only way a sniper/spotter team can be utilized. While the main body is fighting, the sniper and his spotter slip in, and with the spotter covering in case of attack too close, the sniper takes his shots.

Another problem, to be a good sniper, you can't utilize stock weapons. You need to outshoot everyone. You need to be able to hit them from far enough away that their gun won't reach you in return. To do that costs money to get your gun to shoot effectivly... I'm talking the cost of a whole gun's worth of money.

In short, you have to be dedicated to be a sniper. You have to literally eat, drink, and breath sniping. If you don't have the mind set to want to reach out and touch someone, then you should stick with an AEG. If you don't want to be able to support the Marine Corps Scout Sniper's motto, "If you run, you'll die tired," you don't need to mount that scope...

I wanted to be a sniper. It's my passion. But there are too many new players on my team, and to get in those new players, they like to see alot of bb's and alot of action. I had to smash my dreams and get an AEG until I get more people... I don't think new players should snipe. They need to get into the spirit of fighting first. If you have a sniping position, I'd suggest instating a sniper/spotter team, and have your wanna-be sniper play spotter a little bit. They'll probably see that it's not as fun as they thought, and they'll want an M16 so they can get into the action...

That's my thoughts on this, and I hope they added to your rant well enough...

My first real airsoft gun (by real I mean a respectable non-Walmart gun) was a L96 bolt-action sniper rifle because I wante to be a sniper. I tried the role out and didn't like it, because it was very slow firing it and the BB's didn't even go that far. So I switched my role to Squad Support. All in all I don't think airsoft snipers are very effective.

anyone who thinks snipers have no effect in airsoft is out of there mind i would destroy main assult men and they would not even see me that is a fact not being cocky even with my bolt action sniper

I never said airsoft snipers had no effect, I just said they aren't very effective. Sur if you're within 50 feet of an enemy and it's not windy you could snipe the crap out of them. But snipers are designed for range, which the airsoft sniper rifles simply don't have.

Totaly agree with you on this Headhunter true sniping can not be achived in Airsoft,But at times posting up and taking out a few from a distance is quite fun, then again so is scoping out that postup and putting a few bbs from the rear

i do agree with this but i do think that snipers are very effective. i've been to 3 sniper schools and they help alot and i snipe with a classic army m4 upgraded alot and it works great ill snipe and get alot of kills and if i need to i can get up and blast them away. if i need to be in a situation like that i might wear my vest under my ghillie suit. but i agree people who just want to be a sniper and really arent any good at it or dont know how. there are too many of them
