I just recently played a skirmish against a friend, and we both played with just goggles, instead of a full face mask. I understand now why they make full masks, because getting hit in the chin sucked. Do fields usually require full face masks? Also, what is your opinion? I wore a balacavia and goggles, (I forgot to pull the balacavia back up over my mouth before we started playing again when I actually got hit, so I don't know how much it would have helped) Do you think one should be used over the other? Please, give me your veteran opinions.

I have used both. Goggles are a definite at least in my opinion. Less restrictive, and less prone to fogging. But its player opinon ultimately, are you prepared to take a round in the face? It does happen from time to time, and the full mask prevents it, but the freedom of getting on your sights, the decreased hassle of fogging problems, and the lightweight, less constrictive feel of goggles make them a worth the risk for me.

Full face masks are nice when involved in QCB situations. I would recommend them for any MOUT or other QCB, any other time they are just cumbersome and fog up. All other combat situations a good pair of sealed goggles or safety glasses will suffice. I would suggest a nice mouth piece to protect your teeth. I have seen a lot of people come out of a skirmish with half a front tooth (Not Pretty). Most fields require ANZI rated safety glasses only along with a signed waiver. Hope this helped a little.

Do you know the rating requirements? That's one thing I've wanted to know for a while... If you did, that'd be great.

ANSI z.87.1 and sealed.

Thank you very much... Now, I just need to check the ANSI rating on the kid's goggles. He wanted to know if they'd work, and now I can tell him. Thanks.
