The #1 Online Comunity for Airsoft Teams

I just recently played a skirmish against a friend, and we both played with just goggles, instead of a full face mask. I understand now why they make full masks, because getting hit in the chin sucked. Do fields usually require full face masks? Also, what is your opinion? I wore a balacavia and goggles, (I forgot to pull the balacavia back up over my mouth before we started playing again when I actually got hit, so I don't know how much it would have helped) Do you think one should be used over the other? Please, give me your veteran opinions.

Personally, I prefer goggles or shooting glasses. I can't aim to save my life with a bulky paintball mask on. Its not me, its the fact that I can't look down the sights of my gun because of the mask. The field I play at is for paintball but they do airsoft too. So they require a full mask. Airsofters, because we are ignored by the paintball refs, get away with just goggles. Wearing a balaclava with goggles or shooting glasses passes for a mask.

If you want my opinion, get a good pair of shooting glasses and a black ski mask, and your good. Getting hit on the face does hurt sometimes, but it is rare. I've played for almost a year now and I've only been hit in the face twice. It stung, but I shook it off and kept going for the rest of the day.

I prefer safety glasses. Masks and goggles are hot, bulky, and fog up. I do wear ANSI goggles when required on a field. Getting shot is part of the game. If you can't handle it play XBOX instead.

I never said I couldn't handle getting shot. I wanted to get advice from veterans, because I'm new to Airsoft. I don't like the thoughts of shooting glasses, because there's a risk they could fall off if you ask me. I understand what Reaper is talking about with bulk, because I agree... But please, don't say things like I can't handle it... If that was the case, I would have never tried to start a team...

I didn't say you couldn't handle it, that's just what I was told when I started playing. I was giving you my veteran opinion. I and my team all wear safety glasses unless a field requires sealed ANSI rated goggles (what most commercial fields require to carry insurance). Then I wear my Arenas with the top vents out, they stay pretty clear that way. We usually play on private fields. I have never had any problems with glasses falling off or even moving around, but you have to do what you are comfortable with. I do recommend a balacavia or some kind of face cover when it's not so hot (for protection and camo). I would not wear the mesh face masks made for airsoft, because BBs shatter. Most places I've seen don't allow them anyway. I wish I was bulletproof.

Sorry, I don't like being told I can't handle things... I took it a different way. I still don't like the thoughts of safety glasses... but goggles are what I prefer because of my glasses(Since I don't want contacts)... Thanks for the opinion, and sorry for making it sound like I was going off on you.

I love my Arena goggles with a passion. the balacavia was cool, but made u overheat in a way. personaly, id rather go in with a mouth piece and run the risk--afterall im bulletproof. ^_^ jk.

Wilson, I did win once >.< I do agree about the overheating, but I don't like the thoughts of no face protection...

I think you should try playing a few games with differnt types of face/ eye protection and see what works best for you. If you like having full face protection but don't like getting overheated, believe it or not i've seen people put a computer fan in their masks. I'm not saying destroy a computer for a fan, but try to fix something up. And if you get a mask, buy a sight for yu gun. Because if your using a mask with any side protectionthere is no way in hell your gonna be able to look down your iron sights without putting the stock of your gun in your chest. This is the whole reason I don't bother with a mask.

Its all really up to you. Its anindividual decision based on what your most comfortable with. Everyone is different. You just have to find what works best for you.

Oh, trust me, your shooting glasses won't fall off. I'v never once heard of anything like that happening lol. They have rubber on the back for this resason exactly. Well, mine do anyways. Get the actual shooting glasses, not the airsoft ones.

i found that masks work better for CQB games because there are lots of different angles that another player can shoot you from, especially in stairwells of multi story buildings. this is from experience too. i was on a blacony type thing that looked over part of the first floor and somebody directly below me shot up at me and a BB shot up underneath my shooting glasses and hit me about 2mm below by eye.

That was alot of help... It was answers like that that I was looking for. I'd wondered if angels would affect that at all. Thanks.

ya i gotta agree, its really what works for u. i have tough hide and dont welt up really so leaving marks isnt a problem, and im just pain tolerant so im not much for a full face because of the same reaon, i wanna aim well. so i have some arena goggles that are awesome. well vented and ballistic rated. something else that really works are wiley x's. military safety glasses. awesome. and theres many more to choose from. but again, itsd what works for u

Yeah, I have heard of people and fans, and I actually have a broken computer (Salvage!) but I see what you mean by preference. I have a sight (My battery needs to be replaced, so I played yesterday without it.) I see the difference with and without it. I have fallen in love with my Balacavia of late, because at a practice yesterday, A new recruit to my team took one right below the eye with the hardest hitting gun on my team (He got a nice welp to show for it) He's going full mask, but I think I like regular goggles better (I actually stripped a full face mask, and took it's goggles) I still am amazed to hear that Shooting Glasses would work fine! (I hate contacts so they are out for me, but I'll suggest it to my team) Thanks for the help, and I'll still take anyone's suggestions.
