US Holds Off on Pact With Russia

Now is not the right time for the U.S. to move forward on a once-celebrated deal for civilian nuclear cooperation with Russia, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said. Her comment increased speculation that President Bush is planning to punish Moscow for invading Georgia.

Coast Guard Helo Crash Kills Three

An official says at least three U.S. Coast Guard crewmembers were killed when their helicopter crashed in waters about five miles south of Honolulu, and another crewmember is missing. The helicopter crashed Thursday night as the crew was conducting search and rescue drills.

Petraeus Submitted Preliminary Report

Gen. David Petraeus, has given his military superiors and Defense Secretary Robert Gates his initial recommendation on when to resume a U.S. troop withdrawal and at what pace. Estimates of how Petraeus would suggest cutting this autumn have ranged from one to two combat brigades.

Global Hawk may be Called for Hurricane Duty

The Global Hawk -- an unmanned vehicle that cruises at 60,000 feet -- might get a hurricane test run if Gustav becomes a bigger threat. "One could fly here and sit over a hurricane for 18 hours before it has to fly back." said Edward Walby, director of business development for the Global Hawk.

were stolen from the store. This is very depressing......
