Airsoft Players, Egos, and Rank
Growing up in the Military my entire life, I've been in direct contact with this idea of Rank. I've noticed, in airsoft, Rank is just a thing to tag before your name.
Maybe, it's just in my area, but I think this obsession with Rank is nothing but a big old ego-trip.
Basically what I've seen is, "If you have a higher rank, you have the right to treat people like crap". Along with that, I've noticed that people who are older think they have more rights to a team than younger players.
I just don't understand it. Leaders turn on leaders and sit around and analyze eachother. They attack eachother and throw eachother to the wolves just to get this role of dominance. They push and push until someone backs down and does something that, in reality, they shouldn't do just to make another person happy. This idea of trying to create a top dog of some sort is, in my opinion, stupid. In the Military, that's not how it works and last time I checked, airsoft is military simulation. If you want to simulate military situations, team members need to respect eachother and drop the egotistical acts that a lot of people practically live in. All it does is frustrate the other people that you call teammates and, hopefully, friends.
I don't think Rank is what airsoft should be about! It's like whoever gets the most kills deserves the highest rank and that's rediculous. You should earn your rank by maintaining your responsibility, being loyal and civil to your team mates, and by doing what is best for the team, NOT just yourself.
I don't think egos should play a role either. Confidence is good, but acting like a freaking caveman isn't. If it was, everyone wouldn't use guns! They'd be too busy clubbing their superiors over the head to gain dominance. Egos don't serve any purpose but getting in the way during a battle or game. If you're so busy yelling at eachother saying, "My idea is better!", "No, my idea is better!", or various other bulls***, how are you supposed to be a team and win, for god sakes.
SERIOUSLY, Rank is more than who salutes whom. Rank is a badge of leadership and responsibility. If teams want to work out, they need to realize this and stop kicking eachother in the nuts (stomach for women). Rank shouldn't effect how you treat people and you shouldn't just get promoted because you want to. Rank should be earned, you should be proud of it, and you should represent it in a positive manner - not like a child in a school yard, picking on the people around you to make yourself feel better.
Stop making fun of eachother and saying how much everyone sucks. If your teammates need to improve, help them - don't kick them while they're already down. Teams need to pull together and actually act like a freaking family, because, in the field, it'd be nice to know that your whole team has your back.
My message to people who play airsoft this way, grow the hell up. Stop fighting for a title that, IN THE REAL WORLD, doesn't get you crap. It's stupid and you look stupid when you act this way.

with some people in orther sports like my old paintball team,my old commander used to get pissed at anthing that didnt go through him and he was a higher upper and actually roled our team be fear and hate opposed to friendly things like not caring, and there is some af that shit in all the sports with team work involved and no one iv seen on my team yet do that other then demoting his rank by him self to keep the team to gether witch i would call beter then the higest rank then a general personly

So cougar would you agree that if colonel Joker doesn't stop this Rule with an iron fist role that we will break off into our own team and just be friendly competition for the face stalkers? because if you think about it more than half the team is in our area and what not. everyone up in our area is so much closer because we hang out on a regular basis and not just like "hey, game this weekend" or "training this weekend see you guys ina week or 2 maybe 3 or so" and I can't believe he shot down our idea of a board that consists of one officer and one high rank enlisted from each division. I think we should just go with it since he is in texas and not coming back for the next 4 - 6 years... i mean yea he was a founding father... JUST ONE of the founding fathers... how can he not allow the other 2 to be the same rank as him to make team decisions...

Yeah, I'd definately have to agree with that. It feels like Facestalkers is a dictatorship and it's not cool at all. We are the majority and we are all friends and we all care about eachother. This isn't just a game for us, I feel like our team is like a family and in the military, that's what your platoon is: it's a family.

Facestalkers is not a dictatorship nor will it ever be. You and your division was new and had very little experience in the Facestalkers team. We run a very specific way, you were unable to grasp our mentality, yes teamwork and the idea of a family is present and important, but we also have the military side which was what that family was based upon. These ways and guidelines were set up from the start. Now i know that this whole issue has reached its end but this is more in defense of our team and its reputation. Personally PA had no real regard for the foundation and rules that had originally been setup. Now I ask how many teams and team leaders let there brand new members run the show from the start, or let them make drastic changes to the team and its operating methods? Our team requires you to reach this point to prove that you have what it takes to lead and follow. Rank is not just given out and its only used to create the structured flow of leadership. Rank on Facestalkers is not abused,a way of measuring kills or wins it never has been. Its about the commitment to the team and dedication our members put it. I want to thank MD division for there hard work and everything they have done to make Facestalkers what it is today!

Very well said. We have ranks only to fill that little piece of velcro and keep things from sticking to it on the field.LOL Not really, but we do not put alot of weight on those ranks. My team works on respect and I got your back and you got mine. We all play and pack up TOGETHER> Anyway, the only reason I wear Cmd Sgt Major is because I am the old fart in the group(42), and I put the money out there for the group.

Personally i think rank is a good thing but can be too easily turned into something it shouldn't. I know in my team we just give you a title for what you do, Sniper, DM, etc... That way no one feels like they are left out or discouraged by a low rank...it also eliminates disputes over silly things like "how come he is a higher rank than me?". The only thing we have as far as superiors is squad leaders just to know who will call the shots when its raining plastic. Just the way we do it.
