The #1 Online Comunity for Airsoft Teams

I got the Idea for this topic from listening to OPSEC airsoft radio www.opsecairsoft.com and I thought that this would make a great topic for airSOCOM to discuss. Lately we have been talking about the formation of national and regional airsoft associations, much like CAOC and what not.

While all that is well and good and will really help the sport take off, what else can be done to make AIrsoft more mainstream?

We already have a bad rep that hangs over our heads thansk to misguided morons who act like uneducated baboons rather tahn mature airsoft players. The media doesn't help either when they broadcast reports on the same stupid kid getting shot by the police because he/she was acting like the uneducated baboon that they are.

What can be done to help promote the fact that this is a fun and safe game if played by resposible and mature players. Many of us here, espicially the older players that started playing when airsoft was first introduced into the country, know that we have come a long way since that time, but yet it still has a long way to go.

I want to hear from all of you guys on this, not just the older players, but also all you new people, all you players who have just come into the sport. I want to know your opinions and comments on this subject, This is something that I feel we ALL have to discuss and bouce off each other.

We talk about getting an organization together to help promote and unify the sport and to bring all of us together as a solid group of people, Well we can't start doing that if we don't indentify the problems that are tearing our sport apart at the seams. Its only when we know and discuss the problems facing us that we can all unify and take care of those problems.

We need to come together as one group and discuss these problems as one group and then face them as one unified group.

Well, the thing is.

Airsoft is more popular in other countries. It's been only recently introduced a couple years back.

I say, more time.

And take out the impression that airsoft guns are mostly the walmart stuff.

Let's see...the problem is Wal-Mart guns. And arrogant paintball punks bashing our sport when they have not yet tried it.

The problem is that our sport involves "hunting", shooting, and "killing" fellow humans. Plus we carry guns that look very realistic (unlike paintball guns) and there is a large portion of our population which will never be happy until anything that even vaguely resembles a gun is gone. Aside from getting some greater organization within the airsoft community I doubt you will ever see airsoft got "mainstream" here in the States.

As a new player to the sport, one of the problems I see is a lack of playing fields both indoor and outdoor for new players to experience airsoft. It's hard for a newbie to want to invest hundreds of dollars in gear without a place to use the gear on a regular basis. Many towns do have paintball facilities but not airsoft so I suppose thats one place to look into and see if the local paintball facility has an airsoft day or night...but its still a paintball facility tho and most people getting into airsoft want a different more "realistic" environment to play in. Another problem I see is a lack of local stores to check out good airsoft guns at in person. Thats one reason many newbies end up in Walmart because that may be the only store in town that carries any airsoft guns. So these are two areas of concern that need to be addressed if airsoft is to become more "mainstream" and accessible for more people.
