Ok, im also looking to get a sniper rifle here soon. i want it to shoot fast, accurate, and be durable. Ive only dealt mainly w/ AEG's, and wondering if anyone has any advice. any suggestions anyone?
First off, gas or spring? You will see inconsistency in gas guns regarding accuracy, and fps depending on temperature, conditions, etc. Spring gun will be more reliable, accurate, and consistent, but harder to hit the fps (out of the box) that a gas gun can make. TM VSR is a great platform for building a sniper rifle, it will get expensive fast to upgrade though. I know guys with over $1200 invested in sniper rifles, specifically the VSR, but they will outrange anything put against them, and they pack a punch. For a budget sniper, the UTG Shadow Ops has a nice look, and is putting down 400-410fps out of the box on .25's (we tested one this week), the JG BAR10 is also a nice, fairly inexpensive platform and is a clone of the VSR so it can accept VSR parts, it does 390-400fps out of the box on .2's. Good luck with your decision.
I have the JG BAR. It is a clone of the TM VSR, but easier to upgrade. The cylinder is not sealed. The VSR you have to drill out a pin to open the cylinder. It also has barrel spacers, which keep the inner barrel from moving giving it more consistent accuracy, a recommended upgrade to the VSR. I personally do not like gas guns. There is a lot of information on upgrading the VSR and clones, just google and read the forums for more information
My wife (who happens to be the sniper to my team) has two guns that she uses for sniping ones an AEG, thats tricked up as a snipers rifle, but yet can be tuned down for her to use as a main weapon, That one is the Steyr AUG Phantom it shoots at about 400 FPS, but can be tuned down to about 350-375 if she wants to use it for her primary. The other gun she has is the Tanaka L96, That one has alot of power and packs one hell of a punch when she fires it
